The Opportunity:

At WSP, we're continuing to grow and develop our expertise in Earth and Environment, operating as a trusted advisor and technical expert for engineering and environmental projects for our clients across multiple industries. Our team is growing, and as a result we're adding a Junior Hydrogeologist to our group. As part of the team in Prairies and North, you'll be responsible for driving forward our ambitious plans to enhance our Earth and Environment service offerings in Alberta (and beyond) through your work with a close-knit team of engineering specialists, professionals, and technical staff.

A day in the life:

  • You’ll assist project managers / technical leads with the execution of a broad range of hydrogeology technical services which may include involvement in the groundwater components of Environmental Impact Assessments for the oil sands industry, baseline hydrogeological studies, mine dewatering projects, and groundwater supply projects

  • You’ll support with the preparation and execution of hydrogeological field investigation programs that may include: drilling with various types of rigs, coring, lithological logging, monitoring or pumping well installation, single and multi-well aquifer pumping or injection testing, water sampling, and dissolved gas sampling

  • You’ll manage and use data collected in the field to complete project reporting, which may include: completion of data analysis, borehole logs, data tables, and hydrogeological analysis

  • You’ll demonstrate a “Safety First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff

  • You’ll follow and understand the health and safety policies and procedures of WSP and our clients

  • You’ll take an active role in working with a mentor and other team members to support your individual career progression and growth

We'd love to hear from you if you have ...

  • At a minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering, may also have demonstrated course work or thesis in physical hydrogeology and/or geochemistry and geophysics

  • Eligibility to become licensed as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist in the Province of Alberta (or equivalent)

  • Zero to four years of experience, preferably with mining and/or oil and gas industries

  • Are excited to better understand how hydrogeological data is collected and how this data supports interpretation of the site’s hydrogeological setting, through hands on field experience to both remote and local project sites

  • Some practical field experience with physical hydrogeology including borehole logging, monitoring well installation, hydraulic conductivity testing, or water sampling would be an asset

  • Demonstrated ability to work in the field with small teams, work under the supervision of more senior staff, and the ability to work independently

  • Solid organizational skills (prioritization, time management, record keeping, follow up, tracking)

  • Consistent attention to detail

  • Strong communication and technical writing skills

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (if hired, a driver’s abstract is required)

  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol screening tests
