The Opportunity:

The Specialist, HSE Systems and Analytics integrate technology solutions to enhance HSE compliance, and risk management within the organization. They also focus on HSE data analysis to make a positive impact in the workplace in order to maintain a healthy, safe and environmentally compliant work environment.

With general direction, the incumbent will work on highly complex HSE systems and tools over the entire Canadian business scope. Extensive knowledge of HSE systems and software platforms is required to support the assignment.

What you can expect to do here:

  1. HSE systems and technology evaluation:

  2. Assess existing health, safety, and environment systems and tools.

  3. Identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.

  4. Evaluate IT solutions that can streamline processes, enhance data collection, and improve safety outcomes.

  5. Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends and propose enhancements to existing safety systems based on data insights.

  6. Risk assessment and mitigation:

  7. Utilize technology for risk assessments, hazard identification, and control measures.

  8. Implement predictive analytics to proactively address safety risks.

  9. Monitor trends and recommend preventive actions.

  10. Implementation and customization:

  11. Collaborate with IT teams to implement safety-related software and tools.

  12. Customize or configure systems to meet specific HSE requirements.

  13. Ensure seamless integration with existing infrastructure.

  14. Develop custom and cost-effective digital tools for the business to use that helps simplify how the HSE Management System is used in the field.

  15. Develop tools for the team to use to implement and track HSE assurance activities that produce useful back-end data.

  16. Data analytics and reporting:

  17. Leverage IT tools to analyze safety data, incident reports, compliance metrics and environmental performance.

  18. Establish key metrics, analyze trends, and identify areas for improvement to generate meaningful insights for decision-making.

  19. Create and update dashboards and reports to track HSE performance.

  20. Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance safety systems.

  21. Support and collaboration

  22. Provide ongoing support for system users.

  23. Troubleshoot technical issues related to safety systems.

  24. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, operations, and management.

The incumbent will make recommendations to the Senior Manager on path forward with respect to HSE systems and reporting that impact the performance of the Canadian HSE team and business. The role requires the individual to take data sets from several areas and translate them into meaningful information to the business.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Proficiency with IT infrastructure, systems, and tools including specifically HSE management software, and databases.

  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL) for customization and automation.

  • Addressing safety-related challenges using technology solutions.

  • Troubleshooting technical issues promptly.

  • Staying updated on emerging technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes.

  • Knowledge of data analytics, business intelligence, and reporting tools.

  • Ability to analyze safety data, identify trends, and draw meaningful insights.

  • Proficiency in using data visualization tools to communicate findings effectively.

  • Project management and communication skills

  • Ability to manage IT projects related to safety systems.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and under tight deadlines. Timely execution, resource allocation, and risk assessment.

  • Ability to think out of the box to create innovative ways to convey key concepts.

  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Flexibility/versatility combined with initiative, drive and ability to manage one’s own workload and priorities, including delivery to challenging deadlines.

  • Bachelor of

  • Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering.

  • High proficiency with:

  • Power BI

  • JotForm

  • Power Apps

  • Microsoft Office suite (SharePoint, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • HSE management software, databases, compliance and reporting tools

  • Previous HSE experience an asset.

  • Makes decisions on complex issues/ambiguous matters and provides direction regarding approach and priorities for team(s)

  • Decisions have a moderate impact on operations within a segment. Advises management to develop strategies on matters of significance.

  • Works with senior professionals/leadership to identify opportunities to develop new processes, tools, and services that impact own project, area of specialization, and/or the department.

  • Provides guidance and management advice that has a large impact on cost, efficiency, compliance, service, and quality.

Deliverables & Key Performance Indicators:

  • Troubleshooting and user response to issue in a timely matter

  • Development of tools as per yearly plan

  • Dashboard development and update following defined schedule
