WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Environmental Planner for our Atlanta, Georgia office. We have an immediate opening for a highly skilled, experienced and motivated National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) planner. The NEPA Planner is expected to assist as a task manager and with various environmental tasks related to the preparation of NEPA documents. This position will work closely with environmental and planning staff in the Southeast to prepare NEPA documentation for transportation (i.e. highway, transit) projects and non-transportation projects. Additional key responsibilities of this position include knowledge of ecology. Position will be responsible for setting standard operating procedures for environmental fieldwork, data processing, data management, reporting, and agency coordination. Position will serve as a subject matter expert in review of work products.

The successful candidate must be a team player and a self-starter, demonstrate strong analytical, communication, collaboration, technical, supervisory and business skills and have a demonstrated working knowledge of NEPA, US Army Corps of Engineers permitting regulations and other legislation and regulations that guide the environmental review process. Experience in Georgia and other nearby states and experience with GDOT environmental procedures is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with managing project tasks, including staffing, budget and quality

  • Collecting, analyzing and interpreting analytic and written data (i.e. economic, demographic, fiscal, legal, etc.)

  • Composing correspondence and reports for project activities

  • Technical writing and report preparation

  • Participating and coordinating public and stakeholder public meetings and public participation/outreach processes

  • Successfully delivering projects

  • Developing strong working relationships with clients and teaming partners

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental planning and ecology;

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Ecology or a related discipline is required;

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, the requirements of NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) as it applies to transportation projects;

  • Experience in Section 404 permitting and Section 7 consultation;

  • Ability to effectively present and communicate ideas orally and in written form;

  • Critical, strategic and creative thinking skills;

  • Computer skills (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GIS);

  • Ability to gather and analyze data critically and develop supporting information and reports;

  • Understanding of project administration and management;

  • Possess a high level of energy, enthusiasm, and positive attitude;

  • Must be a team player.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Ecology or related discipline;

  • Knowledge of and experience with GDOT environmental procedures;

  • Knowledgeable of GDOT project tools including P6 schedules and T-Pro project tracking;

  • NEPA/Permitting experience with projects other than transportation.
