This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Consultant, Geologist to join the Earth & Environment Team in the Brentwood, TN office.

Provides support to technical staff and project managers for completing, field sampling events (soil, groundwater, surface water, air/vapor, or asbestos). This will include sampling of surface and subsurface soil, surface water, groundwater monitoring wells, a variety of wastes, and asbestos in addition to operation and maintenance of soil and groundwater remediation equipment and systems, and other field tasks in support of environmental remediation projects. This position requires an individual with a desire to develop effective communication skills as client, agency, public, and team interactions are expected. We are seeking an individual with the motivation to gain experience conducting and planning for site assessments, due diligence projects, and remediation projects under RCRA, CERCLA, state voluntary programs, and Brownfields regulatory programs, as well as other related environmental projects. Candidates should be self-motivated, be committed to working in a team environment, and be able to work on projects with variable complexity.

Your Impact

  • With minimal supervision, assist with collecting, extracting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from soil sampling, soil gas sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, boring logs, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.

  • Review, integrate, collect data, and perform quality control for geologic, hydrogeologic, and other databases.Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements and analysis.

  • Write technical reports summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and software.

  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but is not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, laboratory documentation, written procedures, and field/work site logbooks.

  • Assist with maintaining and calibrating equipment and tools, troubleshooting or reporting on malfunctions, and performing inventory control activities.

  • Provide oversight for monitoring well installation, as well as remediation-system pilot testing, installation, operation and maintenance.

  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.

  • Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of field work.

  • Complete training on assigned tasks.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline, Master’s preferred.

  • 1 to 3 years of experience working as a Geologist.

  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER and current 8-Hour Refresher (required)

  • Flexibility to travel based on project-specific requirements (50 to 70 percent).

  • Analytical mindset and experience with geological research techniques required.

  • Familiarity with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products., as well as awareness of mitigation programs.

  • Highly familiar with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.

  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools. Proficient in Microsoft suite

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
