This Opportunity
The WSP Chelmsford office is seeking a motivated, Construction Health & Safety Manager to serve as an owner’s representative for our client, providing support for their corporate construction safety strategy and implementing initiatives and program improvements to deliver construction safety excellence. This will include partnering with Project Delivery and Engineering teams, both internal to client and external contractor partners, in developing and executing project level construction safety programs.
The Chelmsford and Boston offices includes a multi-disciplinary environmental, health & safety consulting team including engineers, scientists, and health and safety professionals. WSP offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging and innovative projects for a wide range of clients throughout the US.
Your Impact
This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse team of engineers, scientists and health & safety professionals to address complex environmental challenges and requires the following skills/experience for the position roles/responsibilities:
Provide project level governance support to Project Directors in support of management reviews, monitoring of assurance activities, developing, and presenting performance metrics, developing and delivering construction safety presentations.
Proactively engage with Project Directors to forecast programmatic and project level safety risks and work with teams to address emerging risks.
Assure client complies with the national statutory health and safety requirements for each construction project.
Assure Contractors’ safety performance.
Where practicable, implement best practice, and lessons learned, across each project.
Assure that all contractors are implementing the client’s strategy and safe working practices on site.
Ensures that Contractors are implementing client’s and Contractor’s Construction Safety Plan.
Monitor leading and lagging indicators and escalates.
Support incident investigations.
Assist and monitor the development and completion of corrective actions with Contractor.
Identify and implement safety initiatives.
Provide technical assistance to project leaders as a construction safety SME.
Lead project level safety performance reviews.
Collaborate between internal and external partners and stakeholders.
Manage significant high-risk activities including working at height, extensive excavation, and temporary works, segregating pedestrian and vehicle movement, lifting and lowering large heavy prefabricated components and live energies as well as the associated planning, management and co-ordination for these issues.
Facilitate project level forums with client partners to enhance safety communications, lessons learned and best practice sharing, and safe delivery.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
3-5 years experience
Proven experience with construction safety management, integrated risk management, and contractor safety management
Primary knowledge in OSHA regulations, as well as other applicable federal, state, and local regulations
Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. Strong organizational abilities
Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
Demonstrated professional judgment, consistency and attention to detail
Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health or OSHA 500 Construction Outreach Training Course
Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
Adaptability and willingness to adjust to client needs
Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, if required
Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
Preferred Qualifications
Professional certification in health and safety (CSP, ASP, OHST or similar)
Current First Aid/CPR certification
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with the ability/desire to lead tasks
Attention to detail
Self starter and fast learner
