WSP is currently initiating a search for a RESIDENT ENGINEER - TRANSIT & RAIL for our Chicago office.
JOB SUMMARY: The Resident Engineer provides technical leadership and supervises construction engineering and inspection activities, among other responsibilities. Projects may span multiple disciplines, such as civil, transit/rail, structural, electrical, and others. Guides and coordinates a team of construction field inspectors on critical infrastructure projects. The candidate must demonstrate a solid knowledge of transit, rail, and electrical construction including traction power, and good engineering judgment in providing oversight and inspection of engineering projects of significant importance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain client satisfaction of construction inspection and monitoring services
Direct and manage a team of construction inspectors, controls experts, and engineers
Review and respond to contractor requests for information
Enforce compliance with the construction contract documents, per agency specifications and manuals
Monitoring construction in a transit/rail operating environment
Observe contractor performance for compliance with project safety protocol
Interact with construction contractors in performance of Quality Assurance inspections
Routinely track and monitor contractors schedule and report progress
Review contractors Contract Change Order requests and resolve changes to complete the project.
Conduct regular meetings with contractor, utility companies, clients, and other stakeholders
Maintain schedule, budget and profitability of assigned projects
Prepare monthly reports
Track construction progress and verify contractor payments

Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in engineering-related field (e.g. civil engineering, construction management, etc.)
Minimum 10 years of construction management experience
At least 5 years working as a resident engineer on IDOT highway improvement projects of similiar size and complexity
Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Illinois
A demonstrated ability to read and completely understand contract documents
A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials (e.g. IDOT)
Effective oral and written communication skills
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
