WSP USA Senior Water Resources Engineer in Chicago, Illinois

Job Description:

Consider joining our team as a Senior Drainage Engineer for our Midwest District. This position will be located out of our Chicago, IL office though WSP USA operates with a flexible Hybrid-Workplace Model. Your Impact:

  • Provide drainage design for hydraulic modeling and studies, IDOT Location Drainage Studies and Hydraulic Report preparation, drainage design including inlet spacing and pipe sizing, culvert analysis, bridge scour, erosion and sediment control, plan preparation, special provisions, estimating, permitting, and other tasks related to civil engineering and drainage design;

  • Independently make engineering decision and provide input to all aspects of design from conceptual and preliminary engineering to final design;

  • Support projects by attending meetings and interacting with clients, agency officials, and contractors;

  • Develop younger staff in hydraulics analysis and design;

  • Perform high-level professional engineering relating to complex stormwater infrastructure projects for our largest clients across the Midwest.

  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering

  • 6+ years' of relevant experience

  • Experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling including detention facilities, bridge and culvert stream crossings, ancillary drainage items such as scour protection and water quality control.

  • Familiarity with state and local stormwater regulations in greater Chicagoland area.

  • Working knowledge in: HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY8, XPSWMM, StormCAD or similar H&H programs.

  • Ability to independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and criteria using sound judgment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) in Illinois and Certified Floodplain Manager

  • Experience in using MicroStation, GEOPAK or Open Roads Designer

  • Experience in IDOT, Tollway, CDOT, Lake County SMC, DuPage County DEC, MWRD, and other local road and stormwater projects

  • Experience obtaining permits related to drainage.

  • Affiliation with professional societies is highly desirable

  • Strong written and oral communications skills are required.

  • Authorization to immediately work in the United States.
