WSP is currently initiating a search for a Columbus Traffic and ITS Manager for our Columbus, Ohio office.

You will be a key influencer for developing and implementing strategies to grow our Traffic and ITS Engineering practice in Central and NE Ohio. This position will report to the Central Region Traffic & ITS Manager and serve as project lead for transportation and traffic engineering projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as Lead Traffic Engineer for Central and Northeast Ohio to manage and lead traffic operations, design, and ITS tasks for the staff in the Columbus office.

  • Serve as project manager for traffic engineering projects.

  • Work on traffic analyses, crash analyses, and safety analyses for ODOT and municipal clients.

  • Complete traffic studies for private clientele as well as traffic impact study review for municipal clients

  • Work on signal design and operational improvements projects, signal optimization projects, roadway safety, lighting, maintenance of traffic, signing and pavement marking design, ITS projects, as well as traffic engineering projects for ODOT. May also support regional design-build or other traffic engineering projects as needed.

  • Oversee Traffic and ITS resources in Columbus and Cleveland to efficiently manage workload and project delivery across Ohio

  • Management of direct and indirect labor by staff, and development of workload projection forecasts monthly.

  • Leadership in the development of staff, ensuring staff has proper training and that the right staff are in appropriate positions for his or her skillset.

  • Be engaged in Traffic and ITS related pursuits and business development efforts by leading Central Ohio TEC related marketing discussions, setting pursuit strategies, client outreach plans, assigning staff as key participants to our pursuits. Take a leadership role in the overall Ohio marketing discussions and Client Engagement Plan (CEP) development.

  • Coordinate with the Cinicinnati Traffic/ITS Team to support project and pursuits for the SW Ohio Market.

  • Monitor project performance of staff.

  • Growth is a major metric of WSP and of our local TEC managers. Must have a growth oriented approach to the business.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field from accredited university

  • 8+ years relevant traffic engineering and/or ITS experience, including management of staff, projects, budgets, and business development

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Ohio

  • Proven success on pursuits and well connected in the Ohio transportation and traffic engineering community

  • Knowledge of traffic engineering and planning software (HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, ArcGIS, Microstation or AutoCAD)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Power Point required.

  • Desire to bring innovative solutions to our clients

  • Self-starter, proactive

  • Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary project teams across offices

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing engineering teams as a project manager or supervisor

  • Strong project delivery skills

  • Strong business development skills

  • Master's Degree in Transportation or related field

  • Experience with System Engineering for ITS deployments

  • PTOE
