WSP USA Early Career Geologist in Decatur, Alabama

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Geologist for our Decatur, Alabama office. Be involved in projects with our Environmental and Geophysics Teams and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

  • Demonstrate competence with a full suite of geophysical techniques.

  • Experience with geophysical data processing software (ie. Surfer, Oasis Montaj, individual methods software packages).

  • Perform field activities either individually or as part of a team that will include the collection of geophysical/geological data and other documentation.

  • Responsible for compiling mapping projects, managing data, and delivering finished product for review from the project manager/senior consultant.

  • Articulate data and interpretations into draft reports for review by senior geophysicist.

  • Review, integrate, collect data, and perform quality control for geologic, hydrogeologic, and other databases.

  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements and analysis.

  • Write technical reports summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and software.

  • Assist with maintaining and calibrating equipment and tools, troubleshooting or reporting on malfunctions, and performing inventory control activities.

  • Attend to well installation monitoring, as well as remediation-system pilot testing, installation, operation and maintenance.

  • Assist technical staff and project managers with environmental risk identification and assessment, offering input and analysis with low-level threat mitigation activities and remediation projects.

  • Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of field work permitting.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.

  • 0-1 years of experience working as a Geologist.

  • Analytical mindset and experience with geological/geophysical research techniques are required.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

  • Proficient with Microsoft suite of programs.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Travel within the continental USA is required depending on project-specific schedules.

  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical, a DOT physical and MSHA.

  • Must successfully complete and pass a WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER.
