WSP USA Construction Inspector in Herndon, Virginia

Your Impact

Job Duties:

  • Inspect and review work in accordance with applicable codes and standards included in the project drawings and specifications including roadway, bridge, paving, electrical, and drainage, to ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, standards and codes.

  • Monitor, observe, and report on field quality control and quality assurance for materials testing activities and/or conduct routine field tests.

  • Recognizes construction problems and applies standard techniques and procedures to solve the problem.

  • Keeps detailed records of contractor’s performance and progress.

  • Measure and record material placed for periodic contractor payments

  • Conduct “receiving inspections” when material is delivered to the Project to verify that the materials received by the Contractor are accompanied by documentation noted by the source of supply and are in conformance with the Contract Documents,

  • Creates/maintains daily inspection reports and project documentation and/or logs that describe number of employees on a job site, amount of work performed and materials used, weather conditions, accidents on the job site and equipment use.

  • Utilize construction management software such as AASHTO’s Field Manager, ProCore, or Primavera Contract Manager, etc.

  • May recommend field changes to drawings and specifications.

  • Ability to work as a team member without close supervision

  • Maintains daily contact with client and contractors to discuss construction activities.

  • May attend construction meetings with client and contractors.

  • Ensure that contractor conforms to approved Maintenance-of-Traffic plans.

  • Perform field testing for asphalt.

  • Oversees materials testing activities

  • Work in various weather conditions and terrains and will be available nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Understand and follow instructions

  • Nights/weekends may be required

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or possession of a State high school equivalence certificate.

  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience in construction inspection and testing.

  • Ability to read and comprehend contract documents, including complex plans, specifications, and shop drawings.

  • Knowledge of utilities construction methods including underground electrical ductbanks, materials, standards and specifications.

  • Current VDOT certifications including: MOT Workzone Traffic Control, Asphalt Field Level 1, Pavement Marking, OSHA 10-hr, with the ability to obtain the following certifications within 6-months. Erosion and Sediment Control, Soil and Aggregate Compaction, American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Level I, Concrete Field Cert. Asphalt Field Level 2, Guardrail Installers Training (GRIT), Nuclear Gauge Safety

  • Very good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with owners, engineers, consultants, and contractors.

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license in accordance with WSP USA Inc. Human Resources policy

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Valid driver's license required and must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policie

Preferred Qualifications:

College coursework.
