WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Environmental Planner for our Houston, Texas office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with preparation of technical reports and studies for environmental analyses related to transportation/NEPA projects
Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to produce figures and maps for environmental and transportation planning studies
Conduct field delineation of wetlands and Waters of the U.S., for compliance with Section 404 permitting requirements based on relevant USACE District guidance
Conduct field studies and agency coordination (USFWS, TPWD) related to protected species habitat assessments and impact evaluation
Prepare Biological Evaluations (BE), Tier I Site Assessments, Biological Assessments (BA), and Biological Opinions (BO) for coordination with the USFWS and TPWD
Assist with public outreach and agency coordination related to planning and/or NEPA studies

Bachelors Degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources Management or Natural Sciences
A minimum of 2 years’ experience; advanced degrees may substitute for one or more year of experience
Working proficiency with GIS mapping, including use of ArcMap
Ability to work independently, productively, and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment with multiple deadlines and stakeholders
Strong written and oral communication skills
Experience with ecological studies for NEPA projects
Experience with USACE permitting, including Individual Permits and Pre-Construction Notifications
Experience with TxDOT NEPA process and environmental toolkits
Applicable TxDOT Precertification’s for Wetland Delineation and Biological Surveys
Applicable USFWS/TPWD permits for Texas-specific species surveys
Successful completion of wetland delineation course
