WSP USA Senior Construction Material Lab Technician in Lakeland, Florida

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Construction Material Lab Technician to join our team in Tampa, FL or Lakeland, FL. This is a senior level position to support construction materials testing for mining, transportation, and commercial/industrial construction projects. This individual may also work in the field as needed.

This individual would be involved in projects with our US Mine Waste Team and be a part of a growing organization that is uniquely positioned to solve our client’s most challenging projects. In this role you will have the opportunity to work as a part of a regional team on challenging mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects.

Your Impact

  • Working within our Mine Waste team on civil and geotechnical engineering projects for the mining industry

  • Performing engineering tasks such as:

  • Soil, concrete, asphalt and geosynthetic liner material testing.

  • Collect samples and perform lab analytical at the onsite lab.

  • Operating standard construction materials laboratory testing equipment.

  • Performing analysis or calculations to check accuracy of test data.

  • Data input for report preparation and submittal to clients.

  • May work in the field as needed doing soil sampling and testing.

  • Site and material characterization

  • Comply with company and client safety guidelines and site-specific procedures.

  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).

  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Current valid driver’s license

  • Proficient in basic mathematics with good writing skills

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds. Will routinely lift and carry materials and equipment.

  • Must pass drug test, physical, and background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Have relevant experience related to:

  • Geotechnical field investigations,

  • Site and material characterization,

  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.

  • Ability to work both independently and on teams.

  • Comfortable working in remote settings

  • Ability and willingness to travel.

  • Ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.

  • Florida phosphate and aggregate mining experience.

  • MSHA New Miner certification.

  • Ability to prepare reports and documentation.

  • Ability to read & interpret plans & specifications.

  • Become concrete certified by ACI.

  • Nuclear density testing.
