This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Geotechnical Engineer for our Tucson, AZ office. The following locations will also be considered: Lakewood, CO . Be involved in projects with our Mine Engineering and Stability Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. This role will offer you the opportunity to work on global projects related open pit and underground mining operations.

Your Impact

  • Supporting senior and intermediate engineering staff in completion of projects in the area of Open Pit and Underground mining rock mechanics and mine closure

  • Performing field work, data collection, field testing, data analysis, excavation stability assessments, and calculations

  • Researching specific rock engineering and mine closure problems

  • Field work will include some aspects of surveying, drilling coordination, geotechnical core logging/mapping, and construction monitoring

  • Data reduction and analysis of investigation data

  • Preparing and working with 2D and 3D models

  • Assisting with geotechnical characterization and assessments in support of underground, open pit, and mine closure rock mechanics projects

  • Assisting with the preparation of technical reports

  • Role will include a combination of office and field work

  • Complete training on assigned tasks.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical, Mining or Geological Engineering, or closely related discipline.

  • 0 to 1 years of relevant consulting or operating experience in a mining or consulting setting

  • Demonstrated background in rock engineering and mine closure

  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

  • Ability to complete field and office work as necessary, which may involve work outside of normal business hours

  • Ability to travel and work in other WSP offices as required

  • Possesses or eligible to receive EIT Certification

  • Proficient in AutoCAD

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer usage

  • Knowledge of programming language (VB, python, or other) would be an asset

  • Demonstrates a 'Safety First" focus attitude and traits in line with WSP’s core values

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment (ability to communicate with clients would be an asset)

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional travel will be required depending on project-specific needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer in Training Certification.

  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.

  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $55,400 - $85,690

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
