WSP USA SVP, Project & Program Management in Lawrenceville, New Jersey

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Vice President, Project & Program Management for our Northeast Region and can sit in our New York, NY office. The ideal candidate will be involved in larger projects/programs with our Transportation Business Line Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

  • Manage major transit and rail programs/projects as a discipline lead, including contract administration and contract supervision

  • Review and strategize improvement to key operational performance metrics

  • Support and empower staff and direct reports to execute projects on time and on budget

  • Assist with supporting business improvement and growth initiatives, providing effective leadership and change management to engage staff and oversee quality deliverables.

  • Liaise with all WSP’s business lines, clients, consultants, regulatory agencies, and major project stakeholders, and contractors.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with public and private sector clients, agencies, partner firms and sub-consultants, as well as, other external stakeholders such as vendors and suppliers.

  • Lead staff development which includes mentoring, training, coaching and professional development.

  • Provide proactive and strategic process and people leadership for the design, implementation, and administration of the engineering discipline’s project and program involvement, promoting a robust awareness of the function’s expertise and capabilities throughout the company.

  • Accountable for overall management and successful execution of engineering projects within the engineering discipline, monitoring internal and external events, expenses, performance, and profitability.

  • Accountable to support the overall long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of program management for WSP in assigned area of responsibility, with a focus on infrastructure opportunities in all disciplines (planning, design, strategic consulting, and program/construction management).

  • Oversee the discipline’s vision and mission to promote an appropriate value proposition that accounts for corporate and WSP client business strategy, governmental regulations and policies, and QA/QC in delivery.

  • Create a learning culture that values innovative subject matter expertise and fosters effective and continual personal development.

  • Develop and implement a communication strategy to increase the effectiveness of discipline-related processes, systems, and practices, and mitigating discipline-related risks.

  • Serve as program management discipline subject matter expert to a variety of internal / external entities including Federal, State, and Local Agencies, Clients, Subcontractors, industry-related groups, and various government and community entities.

  • Manages overall engineering discipline performance and provides inspiring leadership to assigned management and staff.

  • Develop extensive high-level business contacts and client base for providing high program management services including identifying additional business development opportunities, and cross-selling of other WSP capabilities.

  • Collaborates with professionals and senior leadership from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline

  • 15+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering, prior transit and rail experience, and infrastructure design on billion $ + projects

  • Advanced SME-level proficiency with transit and rail engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.

  • Strong working knowledge of FRA, FTA, CPUC, AREMA, and other rail regulatory standards and procedures, codes, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization.

  • Working knowledge in the deployment of communication-based train control systems and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in the oversight and delivery of such systems

  • Demonstrated ability with establishing, implementing, and managing enterprise-wide, discipline-related programs, projects, and practices.

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to manage a large span of control while effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interacting with employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.

  • Demonstrate a high level of organizational agility to gain the support and cooperation of executive management, clients, and key stakeholders.

  • Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.

  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency with office automation, discipline-specific software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools used in the corporate environment.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • 5-days per week in-person at client office in Lower Manhattan.

  • Travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $250,000-$375,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
