Your new role, what's involved?

  • Working with senior people in the Transport Planning Business to further develop and expand our market share with clients in the North of England and Scotland, as an important component of the wider Transport Planning strategy. Taking commercial responsibility for our local frameworks and focusing business development activity on defined priorities within the Public Sector market,

  • Leading project teams in the delivery of a varied portfolio of Transport Planning work, with a focus on Active and Sustainable Travel.

  • Working alongside colleagues in other service lines to deliver large multi-disciplinary projects, with a focus on increasing workshare to our complimentary resource centres.

  • Direct engagement with clients and project stakeholders.

  • Support in the management of the Newcastle team, both technically and pastorally. Responsibility for attending resourcing meetings, securing team workload and maintaining utilisation expectations.

  • Leading and encouraging professional development through mentoring team members and training.

You will have an extensive experience of leading major Active Travel and Sustainable Transport commissions, and the versatility to apply your skills and knowledge in transport policy and scheme development. You would also be expected to have extensive experience of managing transport projects and the commercial aspects of bidding, winning and delivering successful schemes.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • A proven ability to develop and service a productive client work base primarily within the North East and Cumbria area, but also across the North of England and Scotland;

  • A proven track record in managing transport planning projects, both for Local Governments and National Government Organisations;

  • An in depth understanding of transport project development processes;

  • Significant experience in transport planning including production and review of transport plans and strategies, active travel studies, feasibility studies, Option Assessment Reports and Business Case development;

  • Knowledge of current transport policy at sub-regional, regional and national level;

  • Extensive knowledge of transport guidance and best practice (WebTAG, DMRB, LTN 1/20 etc.);

  • Ability to develop staff across the UK and overseas to upskill the pool of available resources to deliver technical work;

  • Strong numerical, spatial, and analytical skills and excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools;

  • Ability to produce project reports, including technical documents to a high technical standard;

  • Ability to communicate technical arguments to technical and non-technical clients, and present outputs from studies to range of audiences;

  • Strong technical and project leadership across a portfolio of projects and clients; and

  • Experience of negotiating with a range of stakeholders through the application of strong communication and collaboration skills.
