  • Old Oak Common station is the London interchange station of the UK’s second high-speed railway. It will be located on the site of the existing Old Oak Common Railway Depot.

  • As well as the new HS2 lines, Great Western Main Line (GWML), Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) and Heathrow Express services will all be served by the new Old Oak Common Station. The station will provide six high-speed sub-surface platforms and eight conventional surface platforms.

  • HS2 Old Oak Common Station will provide a state-of-the-art gateway to London and the wider area, with efficient intermodal interchange with rail, taxi, cycle and pedestrian modes. The station will incorporate passenger and retail facilities, providing a high-class customer experience for all visitors to the station.

  • WSP has been involved with HS2 Old Oak Common Station for almost 6 years employing more than 1000 staff in this time and over 36 disciplines (including sub-consultants, notably Wilkinson Eyre Architects). As such it is a key project of national significance for WSP. The overall Structural team alone is over 50 staff.

  • The Project team working in partnership with HS2, the BBVS (Balfour Beatty, VINCI, SYSTRA) Joint Venture, supported in design by WSP and their supply chain, are responsible for the final design, construction and commissioning of the station.

  • Assist package managers respond and review responses to contractor RFI’s and technical submittals.

  • Assist in the execution and delivery of instructed additional works such as temporary works reviews.

  • Review and respond to proposed value engineering studies from sub-contractors.

  • Contribute to team’s project related HS&W

  • Reporting to:

  • OOC RIBA 5 Structural Package Manager(s)

  • Enthusiasm for structural engineering and a desire to learn and grow on one of the UK’s premium projects.

  • Working towards Professional Chartership through either the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Institution of Civil Engineers or similar.

  • Sound understanding of structural principles.

  • Familiar with design of low-rise buildings and basements (rail experience preferable), with complex design integration of disciplines, where the challenge is typically co-ordination and response to team-wide demands.

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines. Self-motivated and able to work with nominal supervision.

  • Experience in the efficient design of either steel or concrete structures using the Eurocodes with supervision.

  • Good communication and inter-personal skills

  • Some experience of coordinating multi-disciplinary building designs

  • Developing experience in construction techniques, construction plant and machinery, temporary support systems, material testing procedures, construction programmes, construction sequencing.

FURTHER INFORMATION

  • Positions are offered on a full-time 40-hour p/w basis within the co-located site office for a minimum of 2-3 days per week.

  • WSP recognises the effect that the Covid pandemic had on working patterns and supports a hybrid working arrangement with colleagues currently working 3-4 days in the office as a minimum with the remainder as home-working.
