The Opportunity:

WSP is currently looking for a Senior Controller to join our Earth & Environment Finance Team. The role involves leading our national Mining Operations. Ideally, this position would be based in our Vancouver or Calgary offices, but we are also open to Toronto or Montreal. Reporting directly to the Vice-President Finance, Earth & Environment Canada.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Monitor and assess the financial and operational performance of Mining Earth & Environment throughout the month. Provide timely financial analysis and recommend corrective actions as needed.

  • Lead the preparation of periodic accounting and financial reports, including variance analysis, within corporate deadlines.

  • Develop and oversee the annual business plan/budget and quarterly forecasts, identifying related risks and opportunities.

  • Provide leadership to a team of project accountants, fostering development, responsibility, and accountability.

  • Continuously review, improve, standardize, and streamline business processes.

  • Attend Management/Operations Committee meetings and present monthly financial results.

  • Actively participate in major project reviews, ensuring proper financial support for EAC (Earth & Environment Canada) and assisting in developing mitigation plans that impact financial performance.

  • Collaborate closely with Operations to optimize project execution and predictability.

  • Understand the financial needs of the operations group and identify trends/issues that may affect current or future operations.

  • Manage Work in Progress and Accounts Receivables for the Mining sector, working closely with billing and collection teams and project managers to optimize Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) and drive collections.

  • Develop effective financial performance metrics and information systems to enhance decision-making.

  • Ensure compliance with revenue recognition policies and IFRS standards.

  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors.

  • Share information and best practices with other Controllers, fostering a synergy culture within Earth & Environment.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Professional Accounting Designation

  • Minimum of 10+ years of managerial and leadership experience in a senior financial role

  • Experience in a professional services organization is highly desirable

  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and proactive problem-solving skills

  • Experience collaborating with multiple business partners and professionals located in various locations

  • Proficiency in translating financial results, information, and ideas to non-financial professionals

  • Ability to analyze short- and long-term financial impacts of various strategic options

  • Autonomous, collaborative, with strong communication and interpersonal skills
