WSP USA Global Director, Communications and Public Relations in Montreal, Quebec

WSP offers you the opportunity to join its Global Communications team. Reporting to the Global Vice President, Communications and Public Relations, the Global Director, Communications and Public Relations will lead a team responsible for implementing WSP’s global external and internal communications strategy worldwide.

In this role, you will contribute to the achievement of WSP’s strategic objectives by promoting the company’s purpose, values, strategy and progress to a wide range of external and internal stakeholders, including clients, employees, analysts, investors, media, business partners and communities.

The incumbent will work with regional communications teams to ensure consistent messaging and will be mandated with building awareness of WSP worldwide.

The incumbent will work in hybrid mode, with a minimum of three days in the office.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Ensure team and strategic planning alignment with corporate business objectives;

  • Develop and execute communication plans to support the company’s key priorities and those of the various external and internal groups, and ensure consistent messaging to all these stakeholders;

  • Implement best practices and tools to optimize external and internal communications and facilitate collaboration with internal groups;

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of external and internal communication initiatives using quantitative and qualitative measures, and make adjustments as necessary;

  • Supervise and manage a team of communications professionals;

  • Ensure continuous monitoring of employee performance and development.

External communications:

  • Advise and support WSP's executives in matters of public communications;

  • Supervise and write content for press kits, pitches, press releases, speeches and reports;

  • Act as guardian of WSP’s reputation with the media and other stakeholders;

  • Develop and implement strategies aimed at enhancing awareness of WSP worldwide;

  • Manage the company’s financial communications (quarterly financial results, annual shareholders’ meeting, etc.);

  • Lead the crisis management process;

  • Manage the social media strategy;

  • Manage relationships with external service providers (agencies, translation services, etc.).

Internal Communications:

  • Collaborate with various corporate groups (including Human Resources) to ensure that internal program messages are delivered, received and disseminated in a consistent manner;

  • Create clear, compelling and engaging content for a variety of internal channels, to inform and engage employees on different topics (e.g., employee value proposition, team engagement strategies, program launches, major initiatives, etc.);

  • Oversee the production of visual aids, such as presentations, videos and content for our intranet, to reinforce key messages and facilitate their understanding;

  • Organize global employee meetings and other internal events;

  • Manage interactions with internal communications suppliers (agencies, translators, audio/video specialists, etc.).

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field (a master’s degree would be an asset);

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in communications, including at least five years in team management;

  • Extensive experience in media relations, social media, crisis and issues management, public affairs and internal communications;

  • Excellent professional language skills in English and French, both written and spoken;

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with senior management;

  • Strategic mindset and ability to question ways of doing things and processes in order to proactively develop ingenious solutions with an eye for efficiency;

  • Ability to manage several urgent files simultaneously and adapt to a changing environment;

  • High degree of autonomy and strong sense of organization and priorities;

  • Experience in a large company with national or international operations;

  • Attention to detail and thoroughness;

  • High tolerance for ambiguity and ability to work effectively within a matrix-structured organization;

  • Excellent persuasion and negotiation skills;

  • Knowledge of WSP’s business lines (an asset).
