WSP USA Intelligent Transportation Systems - Electrical Engineer in Morristown, New Jersey

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Intelligent Transportation Systems - Electrical Engineer for our Morristown, New Jersey office. The following locations will also be considered: Newark and Lawrenceville, NJ.

Your Impact

  • Assist in the preparation of Intelligent Transportation Systems , Highway Lighting design plans, cost estimates and specifications.

  • Capable of performing electrical calculations such as voltage drop, wire sizing, etc.

  • Preparation of meter cabinet schematics.

  • Be involved in field inventory of ITS facilities; including cameras, dynamic message signs, travel time systems, roadside units, fiber optic conduit/cable, ITS cabinets, etc.

  • Be involved in construction support services; including construction site visits, prepare change of plans and as-built plans, and respond to requests for information (RFI) from contractor.

  • Provide support in preparation of technical reports, graphics and presentation material including leveraging Google Earth.

  • Prepare systems engineering documentation such as systems engineering review forms, CD checklists, CD Reports, Concept of Operations, etc.

  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and disciplines on projects with electrical infrastructure authorities.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in electrical engineering/ITS design, Highway Lighting Design, Lighting Analysis & construction projects.

  • Engineer in Training Certification.

  • Demonstrated track record of working with clients throughout the region and the states.

  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.

  • Familiar with the MUTCD, NEC, NJDOT Roadway Design Manual and the NJDOT TSM Design Manual.

  • Experience and/or ability to perform field work, including site inventories and/or traffic data collection.

  • Experience developing contract packages, including plans, quantities, cost estimates, and technical specifications.

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Microstation, and/or GIS.

  • Experience with Visio, and Visual or other Lighting Software.

  • Experience with systems integration and hardware including fiber optic communications, ethernet switches, traffic controllers, wireless systems, etc.

  • Understanding of the NJDOT Design-Bid-Build process from Concept Development through Final Design.

  • Understanding of fiber optic assignment diagrams and block wiring diagrams.
