WSP USA Building Science Consultant in Nanaimo, British Columbia

WSP is currently seeking a Building Sciences Consultant to join our Buildings group, located at our Nanaimo office. Reporting to the Senior Manager located in Victoria, the role involves Building Envelope consulting services in both the existing building and new construction markets, and Structural Deterioration and Repair specialty consulting services for existing buildings of all types. This position will be responsible for assisting our Project Managers and Engineers on projects related to site reviews, evaluations and reporting.

There are also opportunities to work with team members in Victoria and Vancouver, and the occasional business trip out of town to support projects throughout BC, Alberta or the Yukon. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Apply engineering knowledge to tasks on building envelope restoration & capital planning projects

  • Carry out, in collaboration with the other members of the team, client proposals, investigation reports and construction documents related to various building components (envelope, roof, structures, fenestration, etc.).

  • Drafting of reports, design of plans, specifications and details.

  • Conduct construction and site reviews, monitoring quality of building repairs

  • Liaise with contractors, sub-consultants and engineering disciplines

  • Contribute to the contract administration process on construction projects

  • Accept responsibility for project tasks, deliverables and outcomes

  • Apply sustainable thinking and practices within project delivery

  • Contribute to the knowledge systems within the building science practice

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Building Sciences, Architectural Science or Applied Science – Preference for those candidates with completed courses in Building Science or Diploma from a 2 year Technical College specializing in Building Sciences;

  • Demonstrates a passion in building sciences, building envelope technology, or building construction;

  • Previous co-op / summer work experience in the construction or engineering industry related to buildings is ideal;

  • A collaborative team player, amongst energetic, successful people;

  • Strong at multi-tasking, organized and adaptable to shifting priorities;

  • Excellent communication both orally and in writing;

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Salary range (in British Columbia): $78,600 to $108,100

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The salary range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
