WSP USA Civil Inspector in New York, New York

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Civil Inspector - (Construction with either a Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Background emphasis) for delivering Construction Services on Aviation Projects in our LaGuardia - Client's office. Your Impact

  • Provide assistance to PANYNJ Project Manager / Resident Engineer as directed

  • Overall contract compliance via daily inspections for airport and building concrete work, civil site work, paving work, drainage systems, hydrant fuel systems, structural, and maintenance of traffic, with some electrical, environmental, and plumbing knowledge.

  • Willingness to learn and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Verbal communication includes speaking with the Resident Engineer, other contract staff, facility staff both in person and via two-way communications. •

  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specs and prepare written contract administration documentation such as daily narratives (work reports), special inspection reports, daily time and material records, and document unit price work.

  • Identify potential extra work issues and keep the Resident Engineer advised of potential issues.

  • Review plans for constructability and prepare comments.

  • Ability to conduct preconstruction and construction progress meetings, coordinate multiple work locations, perform audit inspection throughout the construction process, coordinate for quality assurance inspection of completed work.

  • Ability to actively coordinate between private business entities at LGA, and the various departments within the facility to successfully complete tenant alteration work.

  • Verify safety procedures are maintained.

  • Working knowledge of NYCBC.

  • Coordinate contractors work with the Facility as needed.

  • Prepare daily inspection reports in accordance with the project's requirements, recording and reporting any deviations from contract documents.

  • Perform additional duties as deemed necessary

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • High School

  • 11 years minimum experience in construction experience inspecting construction work varying in size (projects ranging from $500K to $5 million plus) and complexity (multiple crews and crew sizes per shift).

  • Aeronautical construction experience is desirable.

  • Valid Driver's license and ability to obtain a high SWAC clearance and LGA SIDA card.

  • Work Days: Tuesday – Saturday to align with Contractor’s work schedule. In addition to night and weekend shift work.

  • Ability to stay late or come in early as needed. Regular day off may fluctuate.

  • Safety Certifications are desirable.

  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials.

  • Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environment guidelines and regulations.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • This hire will be contingent upon client selection and successful background check.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • This role is subject to a client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of the client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.Civil, Mechanical or Electrical project with aviation background is preferred Experience with Agency Construction preferred. Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $85900 - $175200

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
