WSP is currently initiating a search for a Director of Tax Operations for our New York City, NY office. This position is newly created and reports directly to the Vice President Director of Tax.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive and strategic process and people leadership for the WSP USA Tax team

  • Team with WSP Global tax in implementing a tax efficient organization structure to minimize tax expense and optimize operational excellence.

  • Assist business in evaluation of tax implications of structure simplification projects

  • Assist VP Director of Tax with special projects including mergers and acquisitions.

  • Management and oversight of WSP USA Tax team and external providers in preparation of tax provision, financial statements and reporting to WSP Global.

  • Consult team on complex accounting and tax issues and ensure the proper reporting for both financial statement and tax return purposes.

  • Advise business units on tax implications of cross-border projects.

  • Monitor reporting and planning to ensure compliance with applicable tax statutes.

  • Manage external service providers to ensure that projects are being completed on time and within budget.

  • Management and oversight of WSP USA Tax team and external providers in preparation of Federal and State tax returns consolidated Federal international forms (i.e. 5471, 8858).

  • Review returns prepared by external advisors for accuracy and ensure that all relevant disclosures are included in the returns.

  • Identify and lead implementation of tax planning opportunities to minimize cash tax by maximizing the utilization of tax attributes (i.e. NOL’s, Foreign Tax Credits, Research Tax Credits).

  • Manage the integration of acquired entities into the tax compliance and provision process.

  • Oversee US team in evaluation of tax implications of purchase price adjustments for acquisitions

  • Provide guidance and oversee the implementation of technology that will streamline the tax compliance and provision process.

  • Evaluation of processes and implementation of internal controls to ensure accurate reporting for financial statement and compliance purposes.

  • Research and document federal and state tax law changes and rulings which may affect business operations.

  • Liaise with business units to identify variables which will impact federal/state income tax.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in accounting or finance. Masters in Taxation and CPA preferred.

  • 15+ years of experience, preferably some in public accounting.

  • Experience with tax provision and compliance software (OneSource preferred)

  • Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Competency with Microsoft Excel.

  • A team oriented, customer-centric attitude.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
