WSP is currently initiating a search for a Safety Manager for our Construction Management of the NYCT Bus Communication Design-Build Project .

The Safety Manager, using established procedures and guidelines, will assist in the management of safety on a NYCT project at various locations across all 5 boroughs from base stations to bus depots.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review local, state, and federal safety requirements.

  • Provide guidance to project management.

  • Teach and train employees and project staff on OSHA safety standards in construction and general industry.

  • Conduct safety inspections and audits and create/maintain appropriate documentation.

  • Consult and assist managers in development of safety programs and policies for projects.

  • Develop and implement safety plans for employees

  • Review and observe that contractors are complying with their approved safety plans.

  • Prepare daily safety report.

  • Conduct accident and incident investigation and training to include reporting and corrective action.

  • Maintain daily Covid Compliance checklists

  • Provide review and comment on construction contractor adherence to OSHA, contractual safety requirements and local building codes.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or HS diploma with qualifying experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience

  • Knowledge of hazard assessment and mitigation techniques

  • Ability to consult with clients on project related safety issues

  • Computer literacy and ability to utilize an electronic document management system

  • Ability to exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

  • This role is subject to a client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of the client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in facility construction and projects involving electrical or communication systems

  • CSP certifications is a plus

  • Current authorization to teach OSHA 10 and 30-Hour Outreach Training
