WSP is seeking a motivated Construction Inspector to join our Construction Services Group on projects located in the Southern California and assigned to our Orange, California office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret project plans and specifications

  • Monitor construction for compliance with project documents

  • Measure, calculate, and document quantities of installed materials in accordance with client policies and procedures

  • Inspect road and bridge construction (based on Caltrans Standards)

  • Review, inspect, and approve traffic control systems, including lane closures, in accordance with Caltrans’ standards and requirements

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of education equivalent to completion of a curriculum beyond the 12th grade in either (1) engineering which includes courses in trigonometry and algebra or higher, drafting, computer science, and physics, chemistry, or a comparable physical science; or (2) surveying which includes courses in trigonometry and algebra or higher, drafting, surveying, and computer science.

  • 5 years of inspection experience in highway/bridge/public works industry OR 5 years of experience in the highway/public works sector working for a contractor or public agency OR Civil Engineering Degree accredited by ABET and 2 years of experience in the highway/bridge /public works industry (any type of position).

  • Knowledge of Caltrans Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, and Construction Manual.

  • Ability to travel to construction sites (local)

  • Valid California Driver’s License

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Caltrans procedures is desirable

  • Knowledge and experience with Design Build Delivery Method

  • Knowledge and experience with Construction Oversight
