WSP USA Environmental Planner in Ottawa, Ontario

The Opportunity:

Our team in Ontario currently has an opportunity for an Intermediate Environmental Planner with experience working on Environmental Assessment projects in a variety of sectors, as well as expertise in the acquisition of Permits, Licenses, Approvals and Agreements. You will utilize your experience working on independent Environmental Assessments, Municipal Class Environmental Assessments and/or the Transit Project Assessment Process to assist our clients in navigating EA requirements and setting their projects up for successful implementation. Additionally, you will rely on your knowledge of a variety of environmental permits and approvals to assist our clients in securing these items for their projects. You will work with our clients in a collaborative manner during the construction phase of projects to help their projects be delivered in compliance with environmental rules and regulations. You will be a member of a supportive team of environmental specialists dedicated to excellence and client service.

What you can expect to do here:

  • You will assist in the environmental planning of multi-disciplinary transportation, energy and resource projects, including environmental impact assessments and related studies.

  • You will guide the preparation of environmental permit and approval applications.

  • You will maintain environmental permits and approvals tracking logs for complex multi-disciplinary projects in the transportation sector.

  • You will work with designers and constructors as part of integrated design-build and public-private-partnership arrangements to help deliver projects in compliance with environmental rules, regulations and project-specific commitments.

  • You will consult with regulators and clients, and oversee innovative programs that engage Indigenous communities and project stakeholders.

  • You will contribute to the growth of the team by developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key clients and supporting proposals for the team.

  • You will ensure health and safety policies are followed and be a role model for WSP's Life Saving and corporate values.

  • You will primarily be home/office-based but may need to travel for short-duration trips and events.

What you'll bring to WSP:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in environmental studies, environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related discipline

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental planning and/or the coordination of environmental permits and approvals, including preparation of applications.

  • Experience working with consultants and contractors during construction phase works to deliver projects in compliance with environmental commitments and permit / approval conditions.

  • Experience working on complex projects and working with multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Experience with building client relationships.
