WSP USA Senior Architect in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Architect for our Philadelphia, PA office. We will also consider candidates located in Ephrata, PA . The Transportation Facilities Group (TFG) leads, designs and manages projects that support local and regional growth initiatives through small and large transportation projects. Our goal is to team with our agency clients and to develop solutions to the complex challenge of advancing transportation throughout the region. TFG has over 60 engineers and architects throughout the Northeast Region, with major design hubs located in New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington D.C.

The candidate will lead design teams, provide discipline coordination, review architectural designs, and code compliance, and oversee the development of construction documents, including specifications for renovations and new construction of transportation type facilities. The candidate may also be asked to lead or assist on technical proposals and business development activities, attend, or facilitate internal or external client meetings, perform project management of architectural projects and assigned staff, design simple to complex projects, including above and below ground structures, coordinate among various disciplines, and develop contract documents. Additionally, the candidate should have good organizational, time management and communication skills and be able to execute project deadlines as well as have experience in construction consultation/administration in order to expeditiously facilitate the TFG’s role with the client successfully during construction.

Your Impact

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leading design teams, discipline coordination, review of architectural designs and code compliance;

  • Overseeing the development of construction documents, including specifications for renovations and new construction of transportation type facilities;

  • Leading technical proposals and business development activities;

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Typical projects types include:

  • Transportation segments include rail, bus, airports and marine ports; Facility building types include administration buildings, tolling structures, parking structures, bus and rail stations including associated maintenance facilities, ancillary buildings, vent buildings, etc.;

  • Pre-K through higher education school buildings;

  • Low rise office buildings as well as office fit outs;

  • Resiliency related studies and design;

  • Parks and recreation centers.

  • Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, subcontractors, and building authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded building, infrastructure, and development projects.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, or closely related discipline.

  • 7+ years of relevant post education experience in the learned discipline/industry.

  • Registered Architect in PA; NCARB certified a plus

  • Proficient knowledge of architectural principles, practices, process, and the application to project work-related issues.

  • Strong knowledge of construction drawing standards and building codes

  • Solid understanding of architectural tools (AutoCAD, REVIT, SketchUp, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite)

  • Excellent communication and writing skills, attention to detail and highly organized.

  • Self-starter, able to work independently and able to multi-task.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Accountable, reliable, trustworthy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Architecture is preferred.
