WSP USA Associate Consultant, Structural Engineering in Providence, Rhode Island

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Structural Engineer for our Providence, RI office. The following locations will also be considered: Boston, MA. Be involved in projects with our Structural Engineering Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges. The successful candidate will have the following key attributes:

Provides technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and/or construction of building projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of buildings. Substantiates reports and documentation regarding material, installations, and construction specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality.

Your Impact

Design

  • Perform structural design on a variety of assignments for structural elements under minimal supervision

  • Develop design solutions to architectural engineering challenges using mass timber, masonry, reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, and other structural materials.

  • Review submittals and shop drawings

  • Evaluate design calculations for projects

  • Examine existing structures, including historic buildings with archaic construction methods

  • Perform project specific analyses

  • Prepare necessary plans, specifications, estimates, and technical memorandums

  • Develop building information models for structural designs

Analytics

  • Utilize technical knowledge to propose creative solutions and solve complex technical problems

  • Compile and review reports

  • Use necessary computer software tools and applications to solve difficult engineering problems

  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule

Collaboration

  • Coordinate closely with the team on projects, as well as other disciplines as needed, to support client needs

  • Coordinate and manage tasks within projects, including coordination of 3D computer models

  • Participate in or lead structural or project related team meetings

  • Mentor and guide entry-level engineers and collaboratively share information

  • Seek to develop client relationships

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP"s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Other duties as required by business needs

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor''s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering

  • 1-3 years of experience

  • E.I.T. Certification

  • Experience in structural analysis and design of buildings using steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber, experience with building information modeling, coordination of building designs with architects and other design professionalsExperience with effectively leading a team and/or tasks for technical assignments

  • Member of and actively participates in local professional practice organization(s) including attending meetings/lectures

  • Excellent communication, written, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to utilize current technical knowledge and applications

  • Attention to detail and highly organized

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP"s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP"s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or Ph.D.

  • P.E or S.E Preferred

  • Participation on conference panels, poster sessions, papers or presentations

  • Experience with Autodesk Revit, ETABS, RAM, and similar software tools is highly desirable.
