WSP USA Senior Consultant - Civil Engineering in Salt Lake City, Utah

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Senior Civil Engineer in Transmission Lines Design for our Salt Lake City office . The following locations will also be considered: Seattle, WA or Portland, OR . Be involved in projects with our NW Pacific Power and Energy Team and be a part of a rapidly expanding group that provides trusted advisor and engineer of record services to clients in the energy sector.

This Opportunity

  • We have an immediate opportunity for a Substation Electrical Engineer, Transmission Lines Design, to provide delivery of high voltage electrical transmission designs for our projects.

  • This position directly advances local and regional responses to Climate Change by supporting the owners and operators of clean hydro power and other renewable resources.

  • Work with interdisciplinary teams on various transmission and distribution projects.

  • Perform engineering duties from conceptual stages of projects through construction.

  • Structural analysis, foundation design, wire sag and tension analysis, development of design criteria and specifications for transmission line design.

  • Civil site design including earthwork, stabilization, station layouts, etc.

  • Procurement of materials, project cost estimating, and quality control reviews.

  • Work with drafting department to prepare drawings and specifications for various deliverables.

  • Regularly meets and corresponds with clients, material vendors, sub-contractors, etc.

  • Travel for project site visits and field reviews.

  • Actively engages and supports business development initiatives in the transmission line market.

  • You will be joining the premier engineering firm leading innovation and growth in hydropower and pumped storage, solar and batteries, and wind generation in a local office that supports the build-out of the bulk electric system in support of this clean power in the West.

Required Qualifications

  • Employment authorization to work in the United States immediately

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program

  • 5+ years transmission line design experience, 69kV to 500kV.

  • Engineer license or the ability to aquire within one year (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, California, Nevada, or Montana).

  • HVDC or underground cable transmission design experience is a plus.

  • Exposure to Substation civil design is a plus

  • Solid working knowledge of the PLS-CADD suite of design software tools

  • Proficiency with any of the following programs: LPILE, MFAD, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation

  • Familiarity with design codes and standards: NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE

  • Proficiency in writing and providing support documentation for engineering calculations

  • Experienced user MS Office applications, strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail

  • Candidate must undergo pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering.

  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.

  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Compensation:

Expected Salary $100,000 - $160,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
