WSP USA Electrical Engineer - Buildings Design in Thornhill, Ontario

From a technical perspective, the Electrical Engineer will be a technical resource, supporting senior engineers and project managers in the production of engineering drawings and design. In addition, the Electrical Engineer will be involved in client and stakeholder meetings, representing, and championing the WSP brand and mission objectives under direct supervision of senior engineers or discipline lead.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer looking to work with autonomy on some of Canada's most future-forward engineering projects. The successful candidate will be familiar with a variety of transportation, municipal, institutional, healthcare, and commercial building projects. The individual will be responsible for the preparation calculation, conceptual and detail design, technical specification, installation details, permit / tender / post-tender services on various building projects, and perform contract admin (CA) services to review shop drawings, RFI’s, etc.

  • Electrical design of power distribution, fire alarm, lighting, security and communications systems for buildings.

  • Prepare drawings, specifications and reports necessary to deliver projects.

  • Design building systems in accordance with local and national codes and standards.

  • Develop lighting layouts, liaise with lighting vendors, manufacturers, distributors, and other engineering disciplines.

  • Develop power distribution layouts, load calculations and feeder sizing.

  • Perform interdisciplinary coordination with Mechanical, Structural, Civil, Site Services, Signaling, Architectural, Project Management, and Construction Management disciplines per project requirement.

  • Perform and assist in construction administration by reviewing equipment shop drawings, conducting site visits and preparing change notices, site instructions, site reports etc.

  • Support project manager and design engineer throughout the project life cycle.

  • Prepare and review AutoCAD and Revit models for all electrical systems as mentioned above; perform clash detection with Revit 3D to find interdisciplinary 3D model clashes.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with a Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation to practice in Ontario.

  • 5 years of experience in electrical engineering within the construction industry, preferably with a focus on district energy and building systems.

  • Proficiency in relevant design software and tools (AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, etc.).

  • Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and regulations such as OBC, OESC, CSA, NFPA, ASHRAE, IEEE etc..

  • Thorough familiarity with software used for engineering studies - arc flash, load, fault and coordination studies, lighting, grounding, etc. is an asset.
