The Team Lead, Mechanical Engineering lead a team of mechanical engineers, EITs and designers. The individual will provide guidance to the team while overseeing their work. In addition to leading the team, the individual will provide project management, design, calculations, and technical support for district energy, heating and cooling plants, HVAC type projects, addition to others. This individual can expect to:

  • Lead complex mechanical projects

  • Provide guidance to design team members and act as a mentor

  • Maintain responsibility for mechanical design

  • Host team meetings and provide feedback to team members

  • Perform site survey/visits.

  • Prepare mechanical design briefs

  • Perform load and ventilation calculations, ductwork and pipe sizing, mechanical equipment selection (chiller, boiler, cooling tower, pumps, expansion tanks, air handling units, fans, silencers, heat pumps, VRF split AC etc.)

  • Design HVAC systems with focus on the ventilation systems serving heating and cooling plants

  • Prepare mechanical drawings and specifications as per applicable WSP standards, building codes and standards to suit project deliverables

  • Complete energy calculations

  • Manage projects

  • Lead meetings with client meetings

  • Develop fee letters and responses to RFPs.

  • Lead coordination with architects, structural engineers, civil engineers, and other disciplines for project implementation

  • Review mechanical shop drawings

  • Respond to mechanical Request for Information

  • Provide mechanical site instructions and change notices as required

  • Have strong mechanical engineering skills

  • Can successfully lead a team

  • Have a strong understanding of district energy/ central plant systems.

  • Experience with decarbonization type projects.

  • Mechanical Engineer with valid PEO License

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mechanical consulting industry.

  • Proficient with AutoCAD and Revit.

  • Understanding of energy modelling, energy costs and life cycle costing.

  • A “can do” attitude with good initiative, attention to detail and strong organizational skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills required

  • Profound knowledge of Ontario Building Codes, CSA standards, and ASHRAE standards related to mechanical systems.

  • Must have strong desire and ability to collaborate and problem solve in an integrated team environment.

  • Desire to participate in client management, business development and proposal preparation activities

  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft suite of programs.

  • Previous consulting experience in educational, recreational, cultural, sports facilities projects is an asset.
