WSP USA Load Rating Engineer in Valhalla, New York

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Load Rating Engineer for our Valhalla, New York office. Be involved in projects with our Northeast Bridge Inspection Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

  • Work with a team to provide bridge inspection load ratings and posting recommendations for a complex viaduct structure.

  • Review inspection reports for critical findings that may impact the load carrying capacity of the structure, determine the best approach for analysis and rating, and creating load rating reports.

  • Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.

  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.

  • Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.

  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.

  • Remain current in latest structural engineering techniques and practices.

  • Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in bridge design, load rating, or analysis.

  • Engineer in Training Certification.

  • NY State Professional Engineering License is strongly preferred.

  • Experience creating finite element bridge models in software such as STAAD.Pro, CSiBridge, etc.

  • Bridge Load Rating Experience using AASHTO's BrR software.

  • Experience with NYSDOT load rating procedures and relevant AASHTO codes.

  • The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills, is self-driven, ability to meet regular milestones and deadlines, as well as supervising junior staff.

  • Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subconsultants and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or Doctorate in Civile or Structural Engineering.

  • Prior experience with Level 1 and Level 2 load ratings

  • Additional state PE licenses.

  • NHI FHWA course 130092 LRFR of Highway Bridges

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $81,500 - $142,560

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
