WSP USA Experienced Risk Assessor / Environmental Scientist in Vancouver, British Columbia

VANCOUVER - (Flexible on locations across British Columbia)

The Opportunity:

You will be part of the risk assessment team which is part of the dynamic multi-disciplinary Environmental Management team in BC and Yukon, that supports our diverse clients with their investigation, remediation and risk assessment needs. You will be joining one of the largest risk assessment and toxicologist teams in the BC and Yukon region. Our team has over 20 staff that practice in a range of areas including, but not limited to: human and ecological risk assessment, environmental impact assessments, aquatic effects assessments, specialty toxicology service and environmental monitoring. What you can expect to do here:

  • Support or lead projects related to Contaminated Site Assessments & Remediation following BC/Yukon and federal regulatory frameworks

  • Supported and mentored by senior staff to develop technically and professionally

  • Conducting literature reviews on toxicology, environmental chemistry, public health and related topics;

  • Deliver on overall management of tasks including planning, scheduling, resourcing, reporting and cost/scope tracking to ensure deliverables are provided on time and within budgets;

  • Performing detailed human health and/or ecological risk assessments related to exposure to soil, surface water, groundwater and air for a range of chemicals;

  • Preparing report summaries and/or critical analysis by applying a wide range of scientific disciplines to human health and ecological risk assessments, environmental impact assessments, and aquatic effects monitoring projects;

  • Conducting other environmental assessments and planning including baseline environmental investigations, preliminary site investigations, detailed site investigations as necessary;

  • Assisting with the development of field programs for the collection of samples for chemical analysis;

  • Provide technical development, training, and support to junior staff

  • Develop internal/external client relationships.

  • Summarizing and interpreting field, laboratory and toxicological datasets, statistical analyses, and preparing written and graphical material for incorporating into reports and presentations.

  • Implementation of quality assurance/quality control measures applicable to the task;

  • Preparation of deliverables including proposals and reports.

What you'll bring to WSP...

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental, toxicology, or biological sciences, or related field

  • Registered Professional Biologist (College of Applied Biology of British Columbia) or eligible for professional registration

  • 4 to 6 years of relevant experience

  • A passion for working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team environment, with strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities

  • Experience in conducting risk assessments, including human health and ecological food chain modelling.

  • Field experience advantageous.

  • Experience in the application of the BC CSR standards and federal CCME guidelines, and their derivation, with the ability to apply that knowledge to risk assessment

  • Great data evaluation skills, including statistical techniques, and a keen understanding of data quality requirements for large datasets.

  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to integrate multi-disciplinary information to support project objectives

  • Good communicator who enjoys working on project teams and collaborating with teams from other disciplines

  • A good understanding of the provincial and federal contaminated sites regimes and the preparation of regulatory submissions

  • A valid drivers license; and

  • A proven commitment to health and safety

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $72,600 to $123,400
