About the role:

PMCM’s Civil Infrastructure and Utilities (CIU) group provides project management and commercial services to UK clients across a range of sectors, including highways, government, water, energy, nuclear and defence. Its projects extend from single-discipline deliverables to nationally and internationally significant infrastructure projects. The group delivers services to clients from offices across our UK footprint with large teams in London, Birmingham and Manchester.

The Group Director will lead our c.130-strong CIU group, reinforcing and developing its strong people, project and client focussed culture.

A typical week would include:

  • Oversight of all activities within CIU, including project and business performance, work winning/pipeline management, client relations and employee engagement.

  • Leading and being accountable for driving growth for your group.

  • Building strong client relationships, engaging regularly with clients and driving client focus in the group.

  • Being accountable for establishing & maintaining a professional project/commercial management team capable of delivering the required services to our clients. Developing succession and resilience to future proof the business and it’s offering to our clients.

  • Establishing robust processes and procedures to manage the group business and associated project risks.

  • Developing and leading delivery of the strategy to achieve financial performance of the group and accountability for achievement of the group’s financial and operational targets.

  • Actively leading on Health, Safety and Wellbeing activities across the group

  • Delivering accurate and informative periodic business reports.

  • Ensuring all company safety, quality, environmental, commercial and project management procedures are followed.

  • Personal accountability for the successful delivery of complex projects up to £5m.

Who we are looking for

Our new Group Director for CIU will have experience in the Transportation, Energy, Water or Defence sectors. They will be able to balance client, staff and commercial expectations with business operational performance.

The successful candidate will be highly collaborative, entrepreneurial, people and client focussed, and used to tackling the challenges that complex infrastructure projects can present.

The Group Director will be: tenacious and responsive in solving issues; focussed on our clients and people in equal measure; proactive in seeking improvement, and: demonstrably inclusive and respectful of behaviours in all their interactions.

The role also includes Profit and Loss accountability at group level and requires an individual with proven skills and experience across all aspects of business operations including financial and commercial management; business development, health and safety leadership; people management; application of corporate systems; recruitment and staff development.

Qualifications, experience and character:

  • Chartered Membership of a relevant professional body (APM/ICE etc).

  • Experience leading major projects or a significant portfolio of projects with proven project delivery.

  • Experience with major UK clients in a consultancy environment.

  • Good understanding of commercial management of consultancy services to clients including business unit Profit and Loss accounts

  • A proven track record of providing business, commercial, project leadership across a wide range of major infrastructure projects for government and private sector and in more than one sector. (Transportation, Defence, Energy, Water preferred)

  • Demonstratable commitment to a proactive culture of health, safety and wellbeing. Thorough knowledge of H&S legislation, CDM requirements, and Safe by Design principles.

  • Naturally curious, solution focussed and responsive to client problems. You’re naturally driven to collaborate and exceed client expectations.

  • Natural ability to develop strong customer and stakeholder relationships, through effective listening and influencing skills.

  • A collaborative approach to work effectively with other Groups and Disciplines within WSP to provide ‘One WSP’ Solutions.

  • A ‘People First’ approach with a focus on creating an open, inclusive and engaging work environment for our team.
