WSP USA Intermediate ESG Scientist in Washington, District Of Columbia
This Opportunity
WSP is currently recruiting for an Intermediate ESG Scientist to support our Climate Finance Team. See Climate Finance and Sustainable Investment (wsp.com) for a description of our team and capabilities. This position could work out of WSP's offices in Washington, DC; New York, NY; or Charlotte. Other WSP office locations or remote options may be considered .
In this new role, you will support environmental and social due diligence for our clients. You will have the flexibility and capacity to work on a wide range of projects and the demonstrated ability to work well with cross-functional teams. Ideally, you are a self-starter who is motivated to solve complex problems to support the rollout of finance for climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience both nationally and internationally. Your Impact
Assist in preparing responses to client requests for Expressions of Interest (EOI), Request for Qualifications (RFQ), Technical and Price proposals (Proposals).
Support with report writing, and monitoring of socioenvironmental programs.
Interface with WSP team on a daily basis to review progress or obtain new assignments.
Interact with senior WSP staff to meet task and schedule requirements for EOI’s, RFQ’s and Proposals
Gain increasing responsibility with project tasks through training provided by WSP and by working with senior staff and management.
Prepare technical reports according to international standards of sustainability.
Support in documentary review and writing of Due Diligence and Socio-environmental Monitoring according to sustainability standards.
Prepare environmental and social impact studies.
Prepare environmental and social baseline studies.
Conduct GIS Analysis
Conduct training on assigned tasks
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
BSc. or BA degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Social Science, or similar field. MSc degree in relevant discipline is preferred.
1-3 years of relevant work experience conducting research, performing technical tasks, preparing technical memorandum or sections of entire reports.
Preparing socioenvironmental impact studies.
Familiarity with international standards IFC, EP4 (Equator Principles), SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), or others.
Extensive Experience with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Power Point, and others.
Candidate must be self-motivated with the ability to review EOIs, RFQs or Proposals request and summarize technical and administrative requirements.
Ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives. Strong interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with ArcGIS.
Fluent in English (Spanish is a plus).
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work day.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications or “Great to Have”
- MSc degree in relevant discipline is preferred.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $57,400 - $103,300
